Flow monitor

Our flow monitors precisely measure the flow velocity in the duct and enable reliable control and monitoring of fans, dampers, humidifiers or heating systems. The flow monitors in the RHEASREG® series also offer a unique feature: the duct cross-sectional area can be determined using a simple measuring tool - such as a folding rule - and entered directly into the device. The volume flow is calculated automatically - simply, quickly and without additional measurement technology.

Different model variants with analog output, Modbus, temperature compensation, changeover contact or direct display offer flexible application options in building automation and industry. Ideal for planners, installers and maintenance engineers who focus on efficiency and practicality.

What are flow monitors?

Airflow monitors, also known as flow monitors, are available in various designs and functional principles. They reliably monitor whether there is sufficient air movement in a ventilation duct and immediately report deviations to the building management system or directly to the connected system.
The selection of the right model depends on factors such as measuring accuracy, operating environment, type of installation and interface requirements.

Why are flow monitors indispensable?

Flow monitors perform a crucial safety and control function, for example in ventilation, heating or air conditioning systems. They sound the alarm if the air flow becomes too weak or fails. This is particularly important in sensitive areas such as laboratories, industrial plants or heating systems - where a lack of air flow can lead to overheating, accumulation of pollutants or technical failures. Without this technology, needs-based, comfortable and energy-efficient ventilation would hardly be possible.

Challenges and risks without airflow monitoring

  • Avoidance of dry runningEnsuring a sufficient amount of air, liquid or gas to prevent overheating or damage to appliances
  • Increase energy efficiencyDetecting unnecessary energy consumption due to insufficient flow
  • Meet safety standards: Early detection of critical faults and initiation of countermeasures
  • Electronic airflow monitors

Electronic airflow monitors usually use calorimetric measuring methods, are particularly precise and low-maintenance. They are also suitable for applications with variable air velocities and often offer additional functions such as temperature measurement or digital communication (e.g. Modbus).

Electronic air flow monitors from S+S:

    • KLSW / KLGF - Duct airflow monitors
    • KLGFVT - Duct monitor for air flow, volume flow and temperature
    • PLSW / PLGF - Pendulum airflow monitor (with external duct probe)
    • PLGFV - Pendulum monitor for air flow and volume flow (with external duct probe)
    • KHSSF - Top-hat rail airflow monitor (with external duct probe)
    • KHSSW - Duct airflow monitor
  • Mechanical air flow monitors

Mechanical flow monitors usually work with a paddle or vane mechanism and are a robust, cost-effective solution for simple monitoring tasks. They are most commonly used in conjunction with liquids such as water, as the paddle can be in direct contact with the liquid.

Mechanical flow monitors for water and other liquids
    liquids:

    • SW - Flow switch, mechanical, with paddle
    • WFS - Wind vane switch, mechanical, with paddle

Areas of application for the RHEASGARD® & RHEASREG® flow monitors:

  • Ventilation and air conditioning systems - Flow monitoring for fans, dampers, heaters and humidifiers
  • Indoor air and air conditioning technology - ensuring optimum air quality in living, working and conference rooms
  • Energy management - Efficient control of air volume flows to reduce energy consumption, e.g. in accordance with DIN EN 16798
  • Special applications - Cinemas, concert halls, sales rooms, data centers, institutes and laboratories where constant air flow is crucial for comfort or safety

Advantages of S+S flow monitors
